In Broadcast 2, we have to start news blogs. I know I’ve done this previously at Today.com, but I abandoned that. This one is for a class, so it’ll be around a while. Check out allisonblood.blogspot.com, it’s where I’ll do a lot of writing about what I’m doing journalistically.

But as far as a semi-now journalistic part of my life goes, I am officially on the search for a new camera. My point and shoot met its demise last night in a wine-related incident. But now I’m on the lookout for a camera that would suffice as a point and shoot but also provides a small amount of professionalism so that if I needed to shoot something for a story, I could use it to take pictures for an internet slide show or something of the like. Let me know if you have any ideas.

The coming week is filled with lots to do. Monday I will be shadowing a reporter from 1:30-11:30, Tuesday I have school and work (and my first B2 package is due.) Wednesday is the veto session in Jefferson City, Thursday I will be going home for dentist and hair, Friday I’ll come back and it’s Jourdan’s birthday. I do like to load my schedule down quite a bit.

It’s also parent’s weekend here, so the campus is full of alums and parents…and extra traffic. MIZ!

Once I apply to the MU Study Abroad and get accepted to that program (after an interview etc.) they submit my application to the Danish School of Journalism. They take 15 people a year. Not from MU, from anywhere. Lovely. The study abroad advisor said “We’ll just have to submit a really good application.” Good plan.

Today I’ll be at the Capitol and then at KOMU shadowing a live truck. I’m pretty excited about seeing how that works, not as excited about writing an essay when I get home at 11 p.m.

Last night HuHot shut down early because the hood over the grill was broken. I got a mixed response from customers when I told them they couldn’t go back through the line. Some were grateful that we offered free dessert, others wrote me nasty notes on their bill. Stay classy mid-Missouri.

And I did not work today. I got a pedicure and had a bbq with some friends. The weather was pretty nice.

But now I’m doing homework, and have a long week ahead. Tomorrow I have work at HuHot, and Wednesday I’m at the Capitol then have a shadow shift for live truck at KOMU. Thursday again at the Capitol and then Friday back to HuHot. 

How ’bout them Tigers this weekend? We kicked some butt. It was good to see a hometown hero in Blane Gabbert. 

Oh well, back to the grind.

I’m back in Jefferson City twice a week, and it feels great. I’m working with KSMU producing a weekly wrap up/ feature of the week’s most important talking points. This week I’ll be reporting on the Missouri Supreme Court decision to uphold the state’s funding formula. I’ll post a copy later.

Things are going well in other classes too. My favorite class by far is Power and Money. It’s a political economy class and has been so interesting so far. 

I’ll be home the 17th and back the 18th, to celebrate Jourdan’s birthday and of course, go to work at HuHot. Things are well there.

Today Sarah and I hit up the bookstore for textbooks and other fun stuff. Watching everyone move in to their new apartments, redecorating and all that makes me really excited. I don’t move into my new place for another week and a half, but when I do I’ll have to do some awesome decorating. I’ll enlist the help of some of my friends, but hopefully my new apartment will be adorable.

Katherine’s visit was fun, albeit short. It was good to have her here, because she hasn’t seen Columbia in a few years. We went shopping, ate a ton of good food and visited my friends. She’s off to Jordan in a few weeks, so I won’t see her until December….then we both turn 21. We’re OLD.

But before I get ahead of myself on getting started on the school year, I do have three weeks until we’re back in action. I’m going to enjoy while I still can.

July is my favorite. Cancun in a week.

Last night at work a man tipped me $20 with a note that said “Nice hair, Star Trek-ish. Thanks for the service.” I have no idea what that means, but I do like $20.

Last night, pretty late in the evening, Tasha and I saw a hot dog vendor on the street. This was the best news ever. Hot dogs with everything on it are the best 2 a.m. snack, ever.

I don’t have to work today, so I will be laying at the pool all day, and then my friend Nick is techno DJ-ing at a sushi bar where my friend is the bartender . Tonight is going to be a good good night.

Get up, breakfast, work out, lunch, lay out, work, go out. What a perfect summer.

I’ve been obsessed with making omelets lately. I’m not great at it, but I have a tiny skillet, so it makes it easy. My most common and favorite combo is egg whiles with spinach and mushrooms. I try to use egg whites because it’s so much healthier. It’s not as flavorful, but I have some salsa with it to spice it up.

Going home in a day and a half to spend some time with the family for Mom’s birthday and the fourth. I’m excited to see them. It’s hard to take time off to just come home and hang out, but special occasions are a good reason to. 

Johnny Depp is coming out with his Public Enemies movie where he is a gangster. He is also working on Tim Burton’s remake of Alice in Wonderland, where he is playing the Mad Hatter. Talk about talent! I’m excited to see both. Also, I hear Alice in Wonderland will be in 3D. Apparently, Toy Story 3 will also be in 3D. It’s going to be an exciting year of movies. Too bad I never have time to go see them.
