Summer, you can never end.

Jenny and I are goofs

Sushi with the pool crowd

July is my favorite. Cancun in a week.

Poke her face.

Last night at work a man tipped me $20 with a note that said “Nice hair, Star Trek-ish. Thanks for the service.” I have no idea what that means, but I do like $20.

Last night, pretty late in the evening, Tasha and I saw a hot dog vendor on the street. This was the best news ever. Hot dogs with everything on it are the best 2 a.m. snack, ever.

I don’t have to work today, so I will be laying at the pool all day, and then my friend Nick is techno DJ-ing at a sushi bar where my friend is the bartender . Tonight is going to be a good good night.

And I am not complaining.

Get up, breakfast, work out, lunch, lay out, work, go out. What a perfect summer.

I’ve been obsessed with making omelets lately. I’m not great at it, but I have a tiny skillet, so it makes it easy. My most common and favorite combo is egg whiles with spinach and mushrooms. I try to use egg whites because it’s so much healthier. It’s not as flavorful, but I have some salsa with it to spice it up.

Going home in a day and a half to spend some time with the family for Mom’s birthday and the fourth. I’m excited to see them. It’s hard to take time off to just come home and hang out, but special occasions are a good reason to.

Johnny Depp is coming out with his Public Enemies movie where he is a gangster. He is also working on Tim Burton’s remake of Alice in Wonderland, where he is playing the Mad Hatter. Talk about talent! I’m excited to see both. Also, I hear Alice in Wonderland will be in 3D. Apparently, Toy Story 3 will also be in 3D. It’s going to be an exciting year of movies. Too bad I never have time to go see them.

To be fair…I was.

I love reporting. I did a story today about local professional firefighters holding a 48-hour food drive for the Mid Missouri Food Bank. It was about a billion degrees out at only 9:30 in the morning, and so after lugging around the camera and tripod and framing shots and doing interviews I was dripping with sweat. The story turned out well. I found out that Columbia’s mayor will be subject to a dunking booth tomorrow morning. Remind me to drop off five cans of food so I can see Darwin Hindman soaking wet.

Because I might as well while it’s summer and I have a decent amount of free time.

I remember the last time I tried to make low-fat brownies…they were a disaster. But this time around, I’m determined to find success. Check out this recipe and tell me if you think it’ll be any good.

Racquetball really does a number on your muscles.

I played today for the first time in I don’t even know how long. I am so terrible at it now, but it was still really fun. The Rec Center courts are really nice, but part of me misses the old beat up courts back at West County Health and Fitness. I bet the kids on the team would tear me apart if we played now, but hey, I used to be pretty decent back in the day.

The humidity today was pretty unreal. I laid out at a pool for a while before making dinner with Jenny, and I couldn’t stand to just sit out there without jumping into the water. There were so many people at the pool that the water was already really warm. It’s only June.

But then I remember that I’d make an ass of myself and never live it down.

So I was talking to Katherine this morning and we were making plans for seeing each other in the winter. She gets back from Jordan in late December and I’m hopefully leaving for Denmark in the middle of January. She reminded me that we need to have time to celebrate us both turning 21. I know you’ll never believe it, but I hadn’t even thought about celebrating back home. That will be exciting.

So I think I’m going to bribe some of the HuHot grill cooks to teach me to grill. I’d love to be able to do that. Those spatulas are really heavy and scary though…and they’re pretty sharp too. But just wait, my resume will say “mad grill skillz” under “additional skills or traits.”

In other news, new roomie Laura and I watched “Percepolis” last week. It was really good. I regretted not knowing more about the Iranian Revolution before I watched it, but ultimately it was about the girl and not about the war. I may pick up the graphic novel later. I would highly recommend watching it..
